How Snoop Dogg Ended Up Hosting Cooking Segments in Sweden

A Deep Dive into Culinary Diplomacy via West Coast Hip Hop

In 2013, Snoop Dogg appeared on the Swedish television show ‘Pluras Kök’ (Plura’s Kitchen), a popular culinary program hosted by musician and home chef Plura Jonsson. The episode, which took place in a rustic countryside setting, featured Snoop Dogg participating in the preparation of a traditional Swedish meal while intermittently sipping cognac and offering unsolicited culinary advice.

Dressed in a robe emblazoned with what appeared to be scenes from his own music videos, Snoop remained committed to the role of guest chef despite apparent unfamiliarity with Scandinavian ingredients such as pickled herring and lingonberries. At one point, he referred to gravlax as ‘fish with ambition,’ a phrase neither explained nor questioned by anyone present.

While chopping rutabaga, he discussed his early 90s album sales and briefly reflected on the cultural differences between Long Beach and Gothenburg. Later, when asked if he had cooked a meal like this before, Snoop answered simply, ‘Not off the top of my head, but there’s always a first time for Swedish fish without the candy.’

The meal concluded with the group serenading the production crew with a rendition of ‘Gin and Juice,’ performed using wooden spoons as percussion instruments.

Though Snoop received no formal culinary accolades for the appearance, he did comment afterward that he was interested in expanding his presence in Scandinavian food television. No follow-up programs have yet been produced.

This appearance has since been referenced as a defining moment in the genre of celebrity-chef crossover episodes that no one asked for but everyone watched. It also marked the temporary climb of pickled beets into the Los Angeles food trend ecosystem, though this correlation remains unconfirmed by scientific measures.
